Concrete Corrosion Inhibitor

Corrosion in concrete is a major challenge facing the construction industry. Having a concrete admixture that works as a corrosion inhibitor is a significant benefit to the construction’s durability, be it a building, bridge, tunnel or any other infrastructure project. Concrete setting accelerators based on chloride can seriously damage works as using them will lead to corrosion.

In the mid 1990s, Yara developed NitCal, a purified, speciality nitrate for use as a concrete setting accelerator, which brings you a whole range of additional benefits compared to other concrete accelerator admixtures.

NitCal provides extra strength to structures by reducing the corrosion of reinforcements. It is an environmentally friendly product.

This gives your construction, building or civil works, a long-lasting durability benefit and reduces life-cycle costs by diminishing repair and rebuilding costs. The maintenance costs linked to repairs and possible rebuilds are reduced. One of NitCal’s main advantage is to increase the life of the building, bridge, tunnel or any construction that you need to build.

Furthermore, NitCal is an environmentally friendly product, that is non hazardous, and that creates no alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR).

NitCal can be delivered as uncoated granules or in a liquid solution. It is added to concrete either before or during its mixing to alter its properties.

Easy and safe to handle

NitCal is safe to handle and cost efficient compared to alternative products. It is available in granules or liquid solutions. NitCal is not regulated by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) (re: Special Provision 208), making it easy to handle and ship.

Reliable deliveries directly to your site

Recommended dosage for Yara NitCal as a concrete setting accelerator

Your NitCal dosage will depend heavily on:

  • how much cement is used: it is recommended to carry out preliminary tests on your site, given NitCal’s anti-freeze features
  • what is the final use: dosage varies based on usage :
    • setting accelerator
    • corrosion inhibitor
    • antifreezing
    • compensate plasticizer retardation effect

Factors such as the type of cement used and the dosing method, among others, need to be taken into consideration. Contact your local NitCal expert for advice on these issues so that you get the optimal dosing rates. It is important that you dose properly to achieve the best results.

Please note that the “antifreeze” feature demands prior testing.
